About Geotechnical Engineering Course

Geotechnical Engineering Course 2023 - The geotechnical engineer plays a key role in most civil engineering projects. Geotechnical engineers assess the properties and behaviour of soil and rock formations. It is a branch of civil engineering and deals with the engineering behaviour of subsurface or earth materials. BE/B.Tech in Geotechnical Engineering is a 4-year programme.

The Physico-chemical behaviour of soils, strength and deformation behaviour of soils, soil dynamics and earthquake engineering and machine foundations are some of the areas of study. One can pursue M.Tech in Geotechnical Engineering after successful completion of BE/B.Tech.

In short or in the simplest words, this course is about the study of the behaviour of soils under the influence of loading forces and soil-water interactions. Everything related to the design of foundations, earth dams, retaining walls, clay liners, and geosynthetics for waste containment is taught in this course. The jobs of the geotechnical engineers is to be available in all the stages of designing of the structures.

They are the prime focused people in the areas like concept to construction. Their role in the design and planning process includes integrity of soil, clay, silt, sand, and rock, prior to construction commencing.

The national average salary for a Geotechnical Engineer is ₹6,69,353 per year in India. The foundation of this course is the element of a structure which connects it to the ground, transferring loads from the structure to the ground.
